Dale Who

Dale Who (yes, it really is) is a twenty plus year collector working on his second Dr Who collection. The first collection was centered on the videos and merchandise available to the general fandom but became too large to take care of properly. After having a giant clearout in 1997 his collection now concentrates on props, gadgets, replicas, production items and the more unusual aspects of Dr Who.

Living in Lincoln, Lincs in the United Kingdom, Dale is extremely active in the Dr Who on-line world having had stints moderating Tom Baker's official website and now owning the MSN group "The TARDIS Rebuilders".

Dale recently featured in the UK Gold 40th anniversary celebrations, whilst simultaneously being in London at 10th Planet as one of the four operable Daleks invited to 10th Planet's Doctor Who 40th anniversary celebrations, at which Paul McGann and India Fisher were the star guests. Video clips including Gareth T Dalek are available on the 10th planet website. Last year, Dale and his friends Frank Xerri, Stuart Currie and Jennie Stacey were lucky enough to be able to repair the BBC's TARDIS prop after it was discovered falling apart in the BBC scenery store. Although the repair work did not survive very long (when the BBC dropped it upon collection), it did appear on TV in it's revamped state )and the 1960s colour scheme requested by the BBC) before being renovated again in-house by the BBC.

Three of Dale's Daleks have had TV exposure: Gareth T Dalek appearing on numerous local news programmes across the country, the BBCi site and magazines such as Model and Collector's Mart; Ginger (black and silver) was one of the two Red Dwarf night Daleks, after a revamp by the talented builder Scott Wayland, and Fred the Dalek was one of the Daleks seen in the Comic Relief Doctor Who skit "The Curse of Fatal Death" - he's one of the three Daleks seen clearly in the hall full of Daleks cliffhanger...

Most recently, Dale acquired an entire console room set from the TimeBase crew. The console, despite being twelve years old is in amazingly good condition, and only requires work on the centre column and some minor cosmetic fixing to be as good as new once more - a testament to those who spend hours building these amazing props. Dale is also proud to own Tom Baker's "Deadly Assassin" Time Lord collar, an old theatre prop TARDIS and a replica K-9 and a replica Davros (although it does have the original tunic from Terry Molloy's first outing in the character - complete with make up still around the neck of the costume!). A replica Season 18 Tom Baker costume, toys, prototypes and a very special Dr Who/Stargate crossover outfit are also in the collection.

Season 18 style Tom Baker replica costume - with a friend at London Expo

BEFORE: no lamp housing, no step (that's duck tape at the bottom), huge cracks and a giant hole in the side where a fork lift truck drove through it - covered up with card and paint.
AFTER: Repaired, repainted, refitted... about two hours before the BBC dropped it and broke it again.

A normal release Dapol/Louis Marx Dalek (red) next to a prototype (never released) translucent colored Dalek (blue) that would have been illuminated via a lit base plinth.
TARDIS key, one of 5000 commercially available then the molds will be destroyed.

This theatre prop TARDIS was built for use in a pantomime, and was leant out to a Scout Jamboree. It was purchased for £30, and now has a flashing blue lamp, along with sound equipment to add to the effect.

The back doors open as well, so many cast members on stage could to walk into the prop and then though the stage curtain at the back, giving it the illusion of being larger on the inside.
